Workers Required to Maintain Smiley Faces with Flash-Face Device

By M.B. Alexander

Something weird has been happening in Happy Mart grocery stores and I'm not talking about the toddler size cauliflower. Everyone working there seems beyond ecstatic, even when rogue children hoverboard into canned tomato sauce towers. Granted, it is called “Happy” Mart. But this is also a store that is known to employ sixty percent organic-human employees, so it seems a little odd to us that suddenly consistently happy.

I mean, sure, there’s something joyful about selling sustenance to other human beings and robots, but is it like eating a hot double fudge chocolate cookie, while flying in virtual reality with your favorite V-TV character, joyful? Maybe, but I question it.

Could it be, that workers have found a new passion for selling products? Or perhaps something else is going on.

We had our investigators look into it and it seems that not all employees are in a Disney-like mood as displayed when you stroll by them with your through hover cart. Not all of them are as exhilarated by your choice of cucumbers as it may seem.

Apparently, Happy Marts nationwide received complaints about grumpy employees raining on their parade. So, the “joyful” headquarters decided that the best solution was to apply Google’s Flash-Face devices to their worker's dress code.

Flash-Face allows one to camouflage their face into whatever face they want through front-face holographic projection. In using these devices workers can display a joyous facade all day long, no matter what circumstance they may be in.

Is this a good thing? On the one hand, maybe it’s a relief for workers not to have to force themselves to fake-smile when they don’t mean it. But on the other hand wouldn’t it have been better to actually try to make the employees happier.

I suppose we just all need to be grateful that Happy Mart is not opting for an all robotic staff, though I’m not sure we would notice if they did so already.
