Not Your Usual Birth
By Louise Farfell
Vanna Bean had a real surprise when she opted for a traditional birth, without genetic programming, aids, drugs or machines. The fact she went into labor in the middle of a business meeting at her company, Telaport, (the company that is responsible for planet hopping) wasn't what surprised her.
She carried the fetus without the aid of monitors, sonograms of the baby's development, without special gene requests and had no idea whether the baby would be a boy, girl or other.
So imagine her surprise, (after the room cleared out) and she gave birth on the conference table to a curly-haired little girl with no extra limbs and eye color that did not change color every two minutes.
"What were you expecting?" Her husband asked.
She answered, "Well, I knew it was experimental, the way I chose to do this. I just wanted to know if it could be done. But I had no idea . . . that . . . she would be so ordinary!" she cried in horror.
Needless to say, when she was handed the baby to feed in the traditional way, her heart melted, and she and her husband fell in love with their boring baby.
Just a testament to parental love. One could give birth to a kangaroo and still love it (I've heard in the Land of Down Under that actually happened a few times).
Congratulations to the Bean family, and may you have many years of joy with your new little girl!
