Groundhog Day Virtual Reality Program

By M.B Alexander

Many theories and articles have been written about the beloved antique film Groundhog Day. Why do we connect to this film in such a manner? Is it the allure of Bill Murray? Without a doubt! But also, we all have our own repetitive cycles in life, reoccurring loops in which we are led to change by will or by force. Perhaps this the reason why Columbia Pictures opened a 'Vanilla Sky' like facility for people to have the experience of Groundhog Day in a monitored environment.

How does it work? You need to put aside three months of your life. You will get sedated and placed in a comfy pod. You will then enter fully immersive virtual reality in which you will relive the same day for the duration of your three months in the pod.

What are people getting out of this experience?

Susie Mcdee said; “At first I thought I’d go mad in the program. I even drove off a cliff, just like Bill Murray did in the film rendition. But once I leaned into it, I found a sense of security I had never felt before.”

Baret Punter claimed; “It completely changed the way I approach a day or any task in my life. Instead of being frustrated by the things I don’t like but must repeat, I find small ways to improve them and improve myself within them.”

Cassidy Liv added; “It’s a master class in how to deal with living. How do we change our reality by adjusting our own perspective of what is.”

There you have it, friends, perhaps we can all embrace the cyclic nature of our lives while finding ways to change ourselves around them.

If you don’t have three months to put aside for a mind-altering experience, maybe you can just try it on your own in your daily life. Next time you have to do something repetitive, which you don’t want to do, try embracing it, maybe even doing it differently. Wash your dishes in a funny hat or while listening to new music. Leave cute notes at a grocery store for other customers. Add something weird to your morning coffee and sing aloud to a ridiculous song on the radio.
