Baby Birthing Pods Mix the DNA of a Hundred Babies
For the past decade The Coo has been supplying the service of Life, in what they call “Growth Pods”: small chambers engineered to mimic a womb-like experience for a fetus, outside of a human body.
For many couples who cannot provide that environment for various reasons, creating a son or a daughter in these pods has proven to be a good solution. Future parents are encouraged to come to the facility daily to watch and touch the exterior of the pods. But those who can’t are only required to come once a month.
Until recently everything in The Coo ran smoothly, with high rates of happy families walking away with their fresh kin. But five months ago something happened with the new batch of embryos. A malfunction in the fertilization processor caused the human fertilizing agents of two hundred couples to merge together and then disperse to a hundred separate pods.
The facility hid this information from the parents until yesterday when an employee’s girlfriend accidentally leaked it out, as she was drunk at a bachelorette party. Apparently, one of the other bridesmaids’ sister was having her baby at The Coo.
Soon word got out and thousands of parents who have harvested their babies at The Coo are now frantic. The facility has not notified which parents these prospective mixed fetuses belong to.
Couples and throuples who are currently using the facility are now facing some serious dilemmas. The babies are too far in the process to legally stop their birth, so the hundred siblings will come into this world. The question is, who will wait for them on the other side.
The Coo apologized for the inconvenience and promised to release the list of "utlra mixed" babies' parents next week. They also said they will take full responsibility of these little beings should any of the families choose to reject them.
Many kind people have already come forth and offered to adopt any baby that ends up without a home. But legally they would need the consent of all the hundred biological parents.
Oh what a sticky mess The Coo has created for us! Will they be one huge happy family, or will this end with a hundred orphaned siblings? Would you raise a baby that was a culmination of you and thirty-nine strangers? Who will these babies be?
Our hearts are with these precious little ones and their confused parents to be. We will follow this story and give you updates.
